Time of flight Bragg edge transmission (BET) imaging was adopted to the plastically bent plates of a ferritic steel and a duplex stainless steel, and the obtained results were validated using neutron diffraction method and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) observations. The BET imaging results of texture distribution and phase volume fractions showed good agreements with those obtained by neutron diffraction and EBSD. The crystallite size evaluation using extinction correction was succeeded by the RITS code where Sabine's primary extinction function was applied, however, the crystallite size was not obtained by the Rietveld refinement where the same function was used for the evaluation. In this study, we comparatively reinvestigate the crystallite size and the dislocation density of the plastically bent steel plates by the use of Pawley analysis on the diffraction data and grain analysis on EBSD data.

JAXA has been investigated the effect of the shielding material for dosimeters in the ISS Russian segment under the ALTCRISS project. The PADLES package is a passive dosimeters which usually consists of two types of passive and integrating dosimeters, a CR-39 plastic nuclear track detector and a thermoluminescence dosimeter. In the ALTCRISS experiments, both tissue-equivalent material CR-39 PNTDs and NAN-JAERI were enclosed in the PADLES packages as radiators for CR-39 to precisely measure a personal exposed doses. We compared the doses obtained by PADLESs with or without the PEs, and with or difference of the two tissue-equivalent materials. The results of space radiation measurements of the ALTCRISS project Phase 1 to 4 using the PADLES system will be reported in this time: Phase 1 experiments was from December 2005 to April 2006, Phase 2 was from April to September 2006, phase 3 was from Sep 2006 to April 2007, and Phase 4 was conducted from May to October 2007.

The S=1/2 three-leg quantum spin tube is investigated using the numerical diagonalization. The study indicated a new quantum phase transition between the 1/3 magnetization plateau phase and the plateauless one, with respect to the spin anisotropy. The phase diagram is also presented.

Exotic field induced quantum phase transition of the kagome lattice antiferromagnet

The magnetization process of the S=1/2 kagome-lattice antiferromagnet is investigated using the numerical diagonalization up to 42-spin clusters. The critical exponent analysis confirms the unconventional magnetization behavior around the 1/3 magnetization plateau-like anomaly; the field derivative is infinite at the low-field side, while it is zero at the high-field side. We also confirm that a magnetization jump appears at 1/3 of the saturation magnetization in distorted kagome-lattice antiferromagnets.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has developed the tensile strength prediction method at liquid helium temperature (4K) using the quadratic curve as a function of the content of carbon and nitrogen in order to establish the rationalized quality control of the austenitic stainless steel used in the ITER superconducting coil operating at 4K. ITER is under construction aiming to verify technical demonstration of a nuclear fusion generation. Toroidal Field Coil (TFC), one of superconducting system in ITER, have been started procurement of materials in 2012. JAEA is producing materials for actual product which are the forged materials with shape of rectangle, round bar, asymmetry and etc. JAEA has responsibility to procure all ITER TFC Structures. In this process, JAEA obtained many tensile strength of both room temperature and 4K about these structural materials, for example, JJ1: High manganese stainless steel for structure (0.03C-12Cr-12Ni-10Mn-5Mo- 0.24N) and 316LN: High nitrogen containing stainless steel (0.2Nitrogen). Based on these data, accuracy of 4K strength prediction method for actual TFC Structure materials was evaluated and reported in this study.

The Japan Spallation Neutron Source (JSNS) at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) had been developed as a 1-MW spallation neutron source. A Au-In-Cd alloy has been proposed as a new decoupler material. Recently, we successfully produced the ternary Au-In-Cd alloy. The alloy composition is 74.9 at% Au, 0.5 at% In, and 24.6 at% Cd. We used the pulsed neutron imaging techniques to measure the elements in the Au-In-Cd alloy. Both a time gated camera system and a multi-channel plate (MCP) detector were used as detectors. Measurement was performed at BL10 in the JSNS. A Au-In-Cd specimen, In foil and two Au foils are used as a sample. As a results, we could obtain distribution of Au, In and Cd in the Au-In-Cd specimens distinctly.

A neutron imaging instrument is in construction at the pulsed neutron source of J-PARC. Some demonstration experiments in NOBORU/J-PARC have carried. To explore widespread applications of the newly built instruments it is indispensable to indicate the range of coverage of this technique. In the presentation, the authors describe the results of some of demonstration measurements, and then compare all elements with the values obtained by multiplying peak cross section and peak widths of neutron resonances in evaluated nuclear data libraries. This value is expected to be a good measure to exhibit visibility of each element in this technique.

The purposes of this study are to perform Neutron Resonance Absorption NRA test experiments using the Micro Pixel Chamber, and to confirm its quantitativity. The detector was located at 14.5 m from the moderator in the experimental room of NOBORU. The samples, consisting of thin Tantalum (Ta) foils, with thicknesses of 5, 10, 20 and 100 $$mu$$m, were placed individually at 15 cm upstream from the detector. In the experiment, the transmission spectra with the Ta samples and no sample were obtained. Background components were not so small in these measurements. From the neutron transport simulation, it was surmised that the origin of this background was due to scattering of neutrons in the experimental room. Therefore, the assumed background components were subtracted from the measurement data. Finally, it was found that the difference between the measurement data and the nuclear data was within about 7%.

We developed a new imaging system for observing the water distribution in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) under operation. This imaging system realizes both low noise and high sensitivity imaging and it enables to obtain an image in relatively short exposure time. This imaging system consists of EM-CCD (Electron Multiplication-Charged Coupled Device) camera, a LiF/ZnS scintillator screen and slit system. The EM-CCD camera has wide dynamic range and high sensitivity. The brightness of the scintillator screen is about three times higher than that of conventional type. The slit system was used for reducing the white dot noise caused by primary and/or secondary prompt $$gamma$$ rays. A characteristic test of this imaging system using JARI (Japan Automobile Research Institute)-standard cell was carried out at TNRF. In the results of the test, qualitative and quantitative observation of water behavior in the channel of PEFC was archived by the new imaging system.
